Sweet Memories

I absolutely love the age that Landon is right now. He definitely keeps us laughing around here and I'm just not too sure what we did for entertainment before he entered our lives. He is just the sweetest thing ever and he has the most tender heart! I have to write down some of the things that he has said lately because I will forget...I have the worst memory ever!

The other day Landon was complaining about a couple of scrapes that he had on his knee. They were just typical scrapes that all little kids get and he was milking them for all they were worth. I told him that he was "just falling apart!" And he told me, "No mom, I'm not falling apart. I have bones, and bones keep me together." Ha!
It's been pretty warm here lately and there have been dead dried worms stuck to our sidewalk--yuck! Landon noticed them and felt so sorry for them. "Mommy, look at these little worms--they're so sick. I'm sorry little worms. I'm so so sorry."

'I'm sorry' is the newest phrase he has been using. Whenever I get on to him for something he always tells me he's sorry. Sweet boy!

The other night while he was taking a bath he was squeezing too much soap on to his washcloth and I was telling him not to use so much and that he was wasting soap. His response..."Mom, why are you fussing? It's fine." And my absolute favorite, "Mommy, I lub you. I like you a lot."

Celebrate

Today is David's Birthday! We are going out for a steak dinner (his favorite) to celebrate. I would share with you a picture of the birthday cake that I made him, but it turned out pitiful looking, however, I know that it will taste better than it looks! And David doesn't care about what it looks likes. :)

David, thank you for being a wonderful husband and an awesome dad!

Scary Storms

We've had some pretty severe storms tonight. Landon and I have spent the evening in and out of the bathroom as the sirens have gone off several times this evening. David is at his school for a talent show and they have over 300 parents/kids there taking cover throughout the school. Definitely scary. At one point, all seemed calm so I peeked out the front door and saw this in the sky. I wasn't sure if I should grab my camera or go take shelter in the bathroom (Landon was already in there playing a game), but since my camera was close I snapped a quick picture. As I began to close the front door, fortunately this dissolved into the clouds pretty quickly.

Soccer, Goodwill, and Working Out

David found this cute little soccer goal at the Dollar Store the other day and we've had the best time with it! I'm not sure how long it will last as the quality isn't the best but it's definitely providing some fun for the mean time. :)

A Goodwill recently opened not too far from our house and I have already been several times. I just love Goodwill!! It is the best place to find great deals on things for the classroom and games for Landon. This weekend I picked up a Wiggles guitar, a matching game, a number puzzle, and some wooden magnetic letters for Landon. Almost all of it was brand new and I didn't pay over $2 for any of it! :)
We recently got a family membership to the YMCA and enrolled Landon in swimming lessons there for the summer. They also have a very kid friendly water park that I'm sure we'll be spending lots of time at this summer! I'm pretty excited about our new membership because I'm hoping that it will help me get back into a nice little workout routine. I've already attended 3 group excercise classes and have really enjoyed it. Another perk is that they have childcare, so now I'm on a mission to find out which nights are the least busy in the childcare area because the other night when I went, it was pretty crazy in there.

Summer is almost here and I'm so ready to spend some time with my two favorite boys! Only 8 more days! We CAN do it! :)

Our Garden...

is starting to sprout (a few are things anyway)! I've never had a green thumb and I can't keep an ivy alive in my home, but with the help of David we can grow some veggies. With the heavy rains we got a few weeks ago, some of our things didn't grow like we had hoped. But that's okay because we have some....

tomatoes that should ripen soon, lots of squash beginning to sprout,
and some little bitty carrots.
We've never had any luck with carrots as they are always so small, but it's fun none the less.

I can't remember what we planted in this row, but I thought it looked pretty hearty so hopefully it will taste as good as it looks.

We also have a few stalks of corn beginning to grow as well as some onions, beans, and zucchini! So much fun! I love fried squash and zucchini and I can't wait to fry some up with chicken this summer!And no post is complete without a picture of my favorite little guy! He has a good time 'helping' with the garden too! :)

Mr. Clean

Although Landon still loves cleaning things and despite fact that he can spot a crumb from another room, his cleaning obsession isn't near as intense as it was about a year ago! I just have to document him helping and cleaning around the house because I know in the years to come this will probably be something that he will not want to do.

He loves going to get the hamper of clothes...I think mostly because when it's empty he plays in it and wants us to push him around the house in it!
The vacuum can keep him busy for 30+ minutes. After about 30 minutes of constant vacuum noise my head can't take it anymore and we have to call it quits! :)

I'm definitely treasuring this phase. When he's a teenager, I'm sure it will not be near this easy to get him to help do chores around the house.

Cupcakes

We have had a very uneventful weekend around here so far and I'm not complaining as I have been feeling under the weather. I would have loved to have spent the day in bed, but when you have a sweet little guy to look after that's impossible. I won't lie though, he did get to watch way more cartoons than normal just so I could lay on the couch and get some rest. I know that David would have let me rest uninterrupted, but he wasn't around much because he was helping one of his good friends move into a new house.

Landon loves to help me bake things and this afternoon he wanted to make cupcakes. So, I pulled myself off the couch and we made some. I think the 'mommy guilt' had settled in by then, so I couldn't say no.

So messy! I told him that he would have to eat his next cupcake outside, and he didn't like that much. He said that he would be more 'pareful' (careful) next time. Ha!

Happy Mother's Day

Today is Mother's Day and I am feeling blessed. I am the mom to a super sweet three year boy that has every little piece of my heart, and I am the mom to a precious little boy in heaven that I can't wait to hold in my arms again.

I am going to be spending the day with two of my favorite guys. We are going to church, then out to lunch for some Hibachi, and then home for some relaxing. We have had a super busy weekend, so I'm looking forward to relaxing!

Yesterday I got to spend some time with my mom. Happy Mother's Day, Mom! I have many great memories of my mom and we continue to make more great memories. After having Landon, I realize just how busy my mom must have been raising three girls. She always made us feel loved. One thing that I love is watching her with her grandchild. She absolutely loves and adores Landon, and I know he feels the same way about her, too.

My Grandmother is just as special to me as my mom. She is a great mother to 8 children and she taught me so much about Jesus while I was growing up (and continues to do so). I feel incredibly blessed to have such wonderful ladies in my life.

Author Visit

Our local Barnes & Noble hosted a story time and book signing by author, Mo Willems. When I received the email that he would be there I knew I wanted to take Landon. We arrived early enough to get a seat that was fairly close to where Mo Willems would be reading his books, so it worked out pretty nicely. I knew if we sat too far back it would be hard for Landon to pay attention.

I left my camera at home as I knew it would be crazy crowded (and it was) and trying to keep up with a busy 3 year old in a big crowd and take pictures is nearly impossible when you don't have another pair of hands with you (David stayed at work late getting things prepared for his upcoming field day). I'm sort of glad I left my camera at home because Mo Willems was a big stickler about using flash photography, and he actually scolded a few guests that took pictures of him with a flash on. :(

After standing in a super long line we finally got Mr. Willem's autograph.

I'm super excited to be able to share this autographed book with my kiddos at school when we do an author study on him. So fun!

Cows and Tractors

On Saturday, we made a trip up to Windthorst to visit David's Grandmother. While David mowed her lawn, Landon and I played outside and did lots of swinging in the big swing with Grandma. While we were in Windthorst we also made a stop at Adam's dairy so Landon could see the cows. Adam is David's cousin and Adam and his little brothers are always so good with Landon. They are going to make great dads one day! Adam carried Landon around and showed him lots of interesting things. Landon, of course, wanted to know how everything worked so Adam would show him.We arrived at the dairy just in time to see the cows being milked.

Landon enjoyed a ride on the big tractor too!

Landon had a great day and was one tired boy by the time we made it home.
